We spent a class with the year 7s but they were just finishing their alien arrival stories. They are very well behaved for kids of their age, when their teacher left they barely made any attempts to stop working.
They are reading books like Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and books by David Walliams, Roald Dahl and Terry Pratchett which surprised me because it would seem those writers connect with young children the world over.
The year 8s was a case of looking at how their stories have evolved since the last day, their rewrites and new drafts. Some of them definitely need work to improve, they have little idea of what they want to write and their deadline is tomorrow. All we can do is try and help them increase their skills and understanding of writing.
We were allowed leave early today so that was an unexpected surprise. I'm looking forward to being in with them tomorrow, although we will apparently be doing spelling tests which will be a bit different.
Until the next installment.
