1.) Go through characters, what makes a good character, character traits, etc
2.) Give them prompts and let them work on their own scenario/ scene/ story for their characters
3.) Bring them to the stage in the school and discuss how they would go about staging, costumes, props, etc.
We focused on the first part of this, which is characters, we searched up and make a list from multiple sources and our own knowledge on what important things need to be kept in mind when creating a character and make traits make a character believable and real.
This list included:
- Personality
- Agency (the character is active, not passive)
- Conflict - External + internal
- Fear
- Motivation
- Relationships
- Relatability - Quirkiness / realness
- Complexity
- Strengths / Flaws
- Unique voice
- Intrigue - the character is mysterious / has secrets etc, and it makes people want to know more about them
- Consistency - the character stays the same throughout the course of the story
- History - the character has a backstory and history, they didn't just appear from nowhere
After the made this lost, we thought it might help the students more if we were to make a presentation of different characters that are real and believable as people. We put photos of all the characters into a word document and we planned that we would show them the pictures and explain t them who the characters are, what they're from and why they're good characters, we also went through and linked each character to one of the 13 points up above on what makes a good character.
The characters we came up with were:
- Harry Potter
- Ron Weasley
- Hermione Granger
- Luna Lovegood
- Sherlock Holmes
- Gandalf the Grey / Gandalf the White
- Bilbo Baggins
- The Doctor
- Annabeth Chase
- Percy Jackson
- Rapunzel
- Nick Wilde
After we were done and happy with all of the work that we came up with for our first day of classes, we went out so we could buy refill pads so we can give pages to the students that we can then collect at the end of classes, and while discussing what to make for dinner, Jass and I both got a major craving for a curry, but apparently Spain just doesn't have curry??? So we had to settle for curry noodles and chicken nuggets instead (which, honestly, were still delicious)
